Mickey Mouse is a funny animal cartoon character and the official mascot of the Walt Disney Company. Since the 1920’s, this lively mouse has taken the world by storm with its appearances in television and marketing of consumer merchandise. Mickey Mouse was the first of many things and he’s here to stay. The infamous Mickey Mouse was sprouted from the heads of Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Walt began to animate his first cartoon character in 1920. 8 years later, Disney’s big break came. Walt’s first cartoon was a character by the name of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. However, he lost the right to produce anymore cartoons featuring the Oswald. (“The History of Mickey Mouse,” 2011.) To make matters worse, his teams of artists were hired by Universal Studios. Upset, Walt teamed up with his own brother, Roy Disney, to make their own production. One day in 1928, during his 5 day trip on a train with his wife, Walt got the idea for a character inspired by a pet mouse he used to own back when he was a child living in a farm in rural Missouri (“The History of Mickey Mouse,” 2011.) At first, he chose to name the anthropomorphic creature, “Mortimer”, but was quickly shot down by his wife. Instead, she demanded a cuter name for the mouse, thus Mickey Mouse was born. Mickey Mouse first appeared on the cartoon skit, “Plane Crazy”. However, this wasn’t as controversial as the release of “Steamboat Willie.” because it was the first animation to synchronize music and sound effects. This got a lot of people talking and interested in Disney’s creations. Walt Back then when Mickey first made an appearance, he was much different than how he is seen today. He was a cheeky, mischievous little mouse who loved adventure and often found himself in trouble. When Mickey first started out, he had bulky eyes and a long tail.
